Help with newborn latching

I have a week old baby who is breastfed but I have been struggling with latching the last few days. My midwife isn't due until Thursday and I am worried about how I am latching my baby on. I have been holding him at his shoulder and leaving his head loose and lining up my nipple with his nose. He is latching on well at this point but I am worried about his head as it is unsupported until he is latched.

This was how I was shown to latch. Does this seem ok? Will I damage his neck/head?

You can always call your midwife to visit earlier or she may be able to tell you about bfing cafes.

Also you tube Dr Jack Newman latching he gets woman to support babies cheek to latch on makes sense to watch it. I attended a seminar of his yesterday and he doesn't complicate bfing and is very helpful.

The baby's head would normally be supported, just not pushed towards the boob in any way.

Here are some very detailed step-by-step instructions on latching from Jack Newman, for reference as well as the videos. (I found them more helpful than watching numerous videos).
