Hi, my as has two tiny teeth and has started biting me whilst feeding. It started out as nips, usually at night mid feed, but today has progressed to deliberate bites; he slowly puts his teeth on and clamps down.

I have pulled off with an 'ouch!' and have had to hold his nose to get him to unclamp his teeth sometimes. I have stopped feeding after a bite and also waited until he was really hungry before offering again. He has now gone about 6 hours without feeding as he just bites me (he has done this long without food during the say before as he is a uber distrcted baby too).

He has always been a bottle refused so I don't have that option, and he usually needs feeding to sleep. If I can't feed him on the breast I don't know what to do. We haven't started weaning yet.

So, has anyone advice as to why he might be biting and how to stop him? Thanks

My daughter went through a biting stage. It is horrendous really feel for you. She would do it most if she wasn't that hungry although if he's gone for 6 hours and is still biting then perhaps that's not why he is doing it. She also did it when she was teething. My aunt who is a breastfeeding counsellor advised me to try not to react loudly (v hard i know) as it can encourage them to do it more. Another friend put baby on floor as soon as he did it and he didn't repeat it.

Sorry not coming up with many solutions. You could try giving him something to chew on if he's teething? Hope it gets better

Push their head in to the breast to make them release their grip, a firm no biting and put them on the floor away from you.

Both mine got the idea quite quickly, thankfully.

Thanks for your help. I hadn't realised it might be a teething thing as although he is biting on things he wasn't grizzly like he has been. We tried Calpol to ease teething discomfort and plenty of teething toys and combined with a cessation of feeding on biting that has improved things today. Fingers crossed it continues :)
