Infant feeding

Is it possible to drop day breastfeeds but still have enough supply for the night?

Hello
I have made the decision to start combination feeding my 12 wk old DD. I really support anyone who wants to exclusively bf and I hope those reading this will appreciate and accept my decision without flaming me- I don't want to go into the reasons why as they are very lengthy and in my mind besides the point as I have made my decision now.
Anyway, my question for those who may be/ have been in a similar position is in the title! I would like to reach a point where I can bf my baby if/when she needs night feeds and at 7am as I know she finds it very comforting and quite frankly it's so much easier than arsing around with bottles in the middle of the night, but I would like her to take formula during the day. I thought I would start by replacing the 10/11 feed with formula and take it from there. Is my ambition of having some supply for the morning and nighttime a pipe dream or could it work?

I did exactly this but DD was a fair bit older. We introduced a bottle of formula before bed first (it reduced the length of cluster feeding!). I found it easier then to gradually switch to formula as her feeds were regular at about 6 months so she had: BF 7am, BF 11.30am, BF 3pm, FF 6.30pm.
Then BF 7am, FF 11.30am, BF 3pm, FF 6.30pm.
Then BF 7am, FF 11.30am, FF 3pm, FF 6.30pm
With whatever feeds she wanted in the night.
I never noticed an issue with supply.

At 12 weeks it might be a bit of a gamble, because it depends on how robust your supply is. If she's feeding very frequently in the night it's more likely to work than if she is just feeding 2 or 3 times.

i managed this fine with DD - I had to go back to work at 16 weeks, so started around 12 weeks dropping the midday feed, then mid morning, then mid afternoon. SO would BF first thing, then off to work, then BF again when I got home and at bedtime and overnight.

Supply....well it was all going swimmingly until 2 weeks after returning to work, I had to go to Scotland for an all day meeting and didnt get home til 10pm because of flight delay. By then I had boobs like melons and I was leaking all over my silk blouse.
