How often do u sterilise your breast pump?

I've just started to express with a manual breast pump & I'm very confused about sterilising it. The instructions say to sterilise it after every use, so usually I would, but I have read that it isn't necessary & just washing thoroughly is enough, sterilising once a week, I even read that one person keeps hers in the fridge between expressing sessions (???) obviously because I've just started I'm expressing alot trying to catch up & build a supply!
What does everyone else do?

I sterilise it every time I use it.

I always did it every time. Though I never got on well with a manual pump.

If I express the full required amount in one go then I wash and sterilise the pump before the next use, but if I express little bits throughout the day then I just keep the collection parts (electric pump - bottle, filter and funnel still attached) in the fridge between sessions.

I also sterilise fully between each expressing session

I used to do what Cavort does. I was never really able to pump more than 2oz at one session, even with an electric pump, so I would pump two or three times a day, then just wash the pump and rinse and sterilise before using it again next time.

The special bf mw at our bf clinic told us we don't have to sterilise, just wash in hot soapy water, rinse in plain water and air dry.
However we have a steriliser so we do it twice a day - morning and evening.

Ok, thanks ladies. A mixed response but I guess that's good - different methods but I'm sure the same healthy babies or else u wouldn't be sharing your advice!
As I can only express an ounce or two at a time (inbetween dd's 2hourly feeds) I think I will wash thoroughly in between uses & sterilise at the end of the day.
Thank u :-)
