Cows milk or stay on formula?

Dd is 12 months and I dont know whether to switch her yet because she isnt a massive eater. Some days she will eat a lot of solids and snacks etc but others she refuses everything and just wants her milk.

Im worried if I switch to cows milk shebwont get enough vitamins etc on the days she doesnt eat much.

Would you keep her on formula for now?

When you look at a child's food consumption it's always best to look at it over a week rather than a day as like adults they have days where they eat loads and days when they eat nothing. If she's not eating much could it be she's filling up on milk?

Cows milk plus a vitamin supplement would probably be a lot cheaper! Think you are supposed to give a supplement up to age 5 anyway.

Yeah if I look at it over a week she eats better thanks. She has 3 7oz bottles a day, one when she wakes in a morning, one after her a nap and then one before bed. She always leaves an ounce or two though so I would say she has around 17-18oz milk a day. Is this too much do you think?

My ds is on formula for that reason. He just turned 2. I'm probably just a sucker for marketing but it dies give me more peace of mind for the days when he doesnt eat though...

I don't think that's too much milk although many children will be on less.

You should ideally be moving to a cup/beaker though. Their capacity is less so even if she has a full cup she will be less full and more interested in food.

I'd suggest using cows' milk in a beaker during the day, and formula in a bottle at bedtime, for a while, to balance your peace of mind, cost, nutrition and all the other factors.

I think it's about a pint of milk (16oz) a day that is recommended. But that includes what goes in cereal, butter, custard, cheese, yogurt etc. it doesn't have to be drunk as a cup or bottle. Cows milk is so much cheaper , from a year onwards your just paying over the odds and lining pockets of formula manufacturers :o

There really is no need for all this growing up milk stuff.

Cows milk (full fat) is fine :)

give both eg 8oz formula 8oz full fat,so child is still getting vitamins and minerals but will accept the taste of cows milk in the future.i would also give a vitamin and mineral supplement such as well baby.
i also give my child omega 3 capsule mixed into yogurt this is great for brain development and a calm placid baby.

Thanks for the advice. She has a beaker for water and juice will introduce the milk in it too. I like the suggestion of cows milk during the day then formula for bedtime.

Thanks again much appreciated Smile

I need omega 3 if it creates a calm placid baby. Could have done with that months ago Grin

i took mor dha pre natel when i was pregnant and iron tablets.
now i give my baby well kid and mor dha mini.my child is so placid, bright and alert would highly recommend.

dont take cheaper alternatives as the dha is too low.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx also avoid cod liver oil it has high levels of vitamin A xxxxxxxxxx if you are pregnant go for prenatal specially for pregnant ladies.x
when children reach 12 years old they then need EPA RATHER THAN DHA I BELIEVE.X

My DS has the Abidec vitamin syrup for children from 1 to 5. It contains fish oil powder and omega 3.

mor dha mini -contains 332 mg of omega 3 fatty acids.
=249 mg of dha
=54mg of epa
age up to 12 years HIGH dha levels are important for brain and eye development
after 12 years High epa levels are important.-mor epa junior
you pay for what you get!some cheaper versions only contain trace amounts very very small amounts of dha or epa so always check on label.x
