Infant feeding

Breast feeding query for 16 week old

Ds feeds a lot during the day. Sometimes he feeds for a couple of minutes and other times he takes what appears to be a full feed.

I was just wondering if I should be trying to get him to last longer between feeds and stop feeding on demand.

Everything i read seems to offer conflicting advice. I have read somewhere that if they can go longer during the day, they should be able to go longer at night. Has anyone had any experience of this?

On the other hand, I have heard it is best to fill their tums as much as possible during the day to get the to longer at night. To be honest this is what we are doing at the moment and as yet we have no real night time pattern. Last night he went for 7 hours before wanting a feed and then every 2, but usually he only goes for 4 - 5 hours before wanting a feed and then 2 hourly. I know this is good for an ebf baby.

TIA

That's great, thankyou.

I am really not keen on co sleeping as I really don't sleep very well and get very sore hips on whatever side I am lying on.

He is not great on settling himself to sleep and will only go to sleep on the breast at night.
