Infant feeding

Bites at end of feed

I have a 12 week old who bites at the end of a feed. It's okay for now as he doesn't have teeth but I want it sorted before then. He doesn't bite all the time but when he does, it's just before he's coming off. Any advice would be appreciated.

Does he do a little jump before he bites?
DD used to do a jump, it's to do with them 'falling' to sleep, just as she fell into a proper sleep and she would sometimes bite me then. If it is that try and unlatch him just before he gets in that deep sleep.

Debs I don't think he does a little jump, but he is asleep when he does it. It's like he's holding on until the bitter end.

Ready When did your LO start doing it?

It's very difficult for them to bite when they are still properly latched on, because their tongue is between their teeth and your nipple. So IME you have to watch out for the latch relaxing slightly and then take them off straight away before they get a chance to bite.

He probably started when he was about 11/12 weeks. He's now 27-8 weeks (not quite sureBlush) and still doing it. Sorry, that's probably the last thing you wanted to hear.
Sometimes you can catch him just before but doesn't always work, especially during night feeds when you're half asleep yourself. Hoping he just stops himself.

DS only ever did it when teething - sometimes ages before a tooth appeared. My sympathies - it hurts!

DS is 10 mo has 4 teeth and this is his new signal he's finished :( It's not too bad as long as he has a nice deep latch - It will be be absolute aggo if he does it on the actual nipple!

With my first, I had to stop bf at 9-10 months because he kept biting me. He drew blood on two occasions... Sorry op. I am praying it doesn't happen again
