Infant feeding

Is he ready to drop feed

Ds is 9 weeks old and bottle fed. His feeds are 7am then 10, 1, 4, 7 then dream feed about 11.45pm, he also wakes around 3.30am for a feed. The other night when he woke I was so tired I just put his dummy in; next thing I know it's morning. The last few nights he has woken at the same time and I have just kept putting his dummy in and he settles after about 50mins. Going by this I feel he no longer needs fed during the night but I don't want to be a bad mum and withhold it from him. He never cries during night, if he did I would take it as a sign he was hungry. He never finishes his 7am bottle either. Do you think he's just weaned himself off this feed?

Ds dropped his night feed at about 10 weeks so sounds ok to me. He just stopped waking for it and didn't seem over hungry in thismorning so I thought I'd leave it.We carried on dreamfeeding until about 16 weeks then gradually gave it earlier so he wasn't relying on milk to sleep.

Thanks englishgirl. Think the 3.45am wakening is just habit for ds. When he gets fed at 11.45pn he wakes then but on Thursday he had his first vaccination and was a bit out of sorts and never took much off his 7pm feed so he got fed again at 10pm but no dream feed, yet he still woke at 3.45am! Thanks for your reply, I'll persevere with the dummy and hopefully break the habit

if it is always bang on the dot of 345 it might be worth trying "wake to sleep" where you rouse them slightly 1hr before the regular wakeup time....(never tried it myself as both my two have been erratic sleepers and woken repeatedly at totally random times)

All 3DC of mine had stopped feeding in the night by this time, I stopped waking 2DDs for 10/11pm feed at 12 weeks and they just slept. DS who is now 7months, wasn't interested at 10/11pm and so he slept without feeding from 8-7am from 7 weeks. So yes sounds fine to me too. Smile

Sounds fine to me - mine continued to need a night feed until about 16/18 weeks old, and then dropped the 11pm dream feed about 6 months.

Well ds went to bed at 7.45pm last night, dream feed at 11.45pm and slept till 5.30am. I did hear him waken around 3.15 am but he quickly settled himself. This is the same baby who only a few weeks ago was awake every night between midnight and 5am so I am absolutely over the moon; long may it continue :)
