My Boob Hurts!

Hi. DS3 is 13 weeks, and I'm bf. My right boob has had a touch of what I think is mastitis twice. I have managed to stop it early on with lots of massage and paracetemol. But for the last week it hurts when he feeds-the nipple hurts most. And I get sharp stabbing pains in the breast when he is not feeding. Has anyone else had this? The breast is not hard or red, but is tender.

Is he latching on properly?

It sounds like thrush, or it could be a blocked duct. The stabbing pains are typical of thrush, with a blocked duct it would hurt if you press the breast, or bump it (if the block is too deep to see). If it is a block then feeding for a really long feed will usually shift it, with hot flannels before feeding.
