Let down question

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm a bit worried (and sleep deprived which is probably clouding my logic).

3 week old LO has been a great feeder from the off, gaining weight at a crazy rate etc, but in the last few days he's started to cough, like it's gone down the wrong hole. When he pulls off to cough, milk sprays everywhere! We both get soaked and I then have to try and get him back on, while milk is squirting into his mouth. So, is this normal? And if not, what can I do to slow it down? I don't want him getting milk in his lungs!

My letdown was always very strong to start in the early days. Once let-down had happened, I used to latch off for about ten seconds and squirt into my bra/ breast pad, then latch the (cross!) baby on again as it quickly calmed down to a dribble, rather than a squirt.

Sounds like a very healthy supply!

Thanks for the link to kellymom, that's exactly what is going on! I shall try their suggestions of uphill feeding and see if that helps.

Already, when did yours calm down?

Seems crazy that too much milk can be a problem too - boobs are funny things

Great though that you don't have to worry about low supply. Hope the tips on kellymom help, if you are still experiencing problems in a couple of days, I'd give one of the helplines a call as they might have some more suggestions.
