Hi looking for some advice for my DS3.

He is ebf and hasn't had a poo for 48+ hours. when he has been previously its still dark/greeny, and a maximum of once every day and a half. He is settled and sleeping well, doesn't cry much or show signs of discomfort. he feeds between every 2-4 hours occasionally 5 1/2 hours at night.

Im not sure if this is normal or I should be worried. DD1 and DD2 both fed and pooed for England. so Im not sure if to be grateful or concerned.

Thanks in advance.

It's totally normal for an ebf baby to go 10 days without a poo apparently. Ds did about 5 a day until about 5 weeks old then about once a week Smile

What about wet nappies, how many really wet nappies does he have in a 24 hour period?

It's not normal for a newborn to go 10 days though effingwotnots - think that is older babies a month+.

Were his previous poos still meconium ones then pants? One every day and a half and then none for 48 hours sounds quite unusual to me, I would want a midwife or doctor to look at him if it were mine.

Wet nappies throughout the day 2-4 plus 1 overnight that is quite full at the front. The poo looks like its starting to change over to the normal poo each time and each time I think the next one will be normal but it never is. Its not as dark and sticky as meconium but its still nearer to that then normal poo.

Midwife signed us off now but saw doctor Friday for my check up ( stupidly forgot to ask) so was thinking of ringing her tomorrow and discussing it. But just wanted to know if its something worth a phonecall/doctors time as our surgery seems hell bent against patients talking/seeing the doctor.

It's unusual for a young baby to go this long without a poo - effing, what you say only applies to older babies.

pants - there is enough unusual in your description of your baby to suggest a visit to/by the midwife for weighing and a check tomorrow.

He's not feeding very often for a 10 day old, and his poo should have changed in colour by now.

You need to know he is feeding effectively, and part of this is knowing that he is gaining weight. He may not be at birthweight yet, but he should be gaining.

Hope all is well.

pants, ideally there would be more wet and dirty nappies. The way to those is to feed more. Do you think you can get more feeds in? Offer the breast every 2-3 hours rather than 3-4? Including through the night? It's very early days for 5+ hours at night.

I assume DS3 has gained his birth weight back and isn't jauniced, seeing as the midwife has discharged you? Has your HV made an appt yet? She can weigh the baby to see how things are going. If she hasn't I would call your midwife team and get some RL support.

How does feeding feel for you, any pain? Do you think the latch is good? Milk supply OK?

Feeding wise i feel full before a feed, hear/see him swallowing throughout the feed and he comes off awake. i think latch is ok, was checked are hospital by breastfeeding advisor a day after birth and isn't painful or feel any different from DDs was. but if i feed before he shows signs he is off on off again and gets agitated within a few minutes. At night he is beside me (co-sleeping) but again won't feed unless he shows signs.

He was born 8 pounds and at 5 days was 7pounds 10. Not weighed since. Appointment with hv isn't till Friday.

Lots of positives there pants Smile If I were you I think I'd give either the midwife or HV team a ring tomorrow and explain you're concerned about the lack of poo and see if you can see someone sooner than Friday.

In the meantime see if you can get another feed or two in per 24 hours. Don't panic or stress yourself about it though, it sounds like you're doing really well other than the missing poo!
