Is BF making me I'll? Help please!

My DD is just over 7 weeks old. I was diagnosed with mastitis at 7 days and given a weeks course of antibiotics and again at 3 weeks and given two weeks of antibiotics. Both times I had one sore, lumpy breast but no redness and a temperature with hot and cold sweats and a headache. Both times symptoms had eased within 48hrs of the antibiotics.

Last night I started getting a headache. Fed DD at 2.30am and felt ok, although still had headache. Then within half an hour I started feeling freezing cold and shivering. I had to put two dressing gowns on and get right under the duvet. My DH said I was roasting before the dressing gowns. Took paracetamol and started to feel hot, took dressing gowns off and woke up soaked in sweat. Soon felt ok again, but have now started again with the shivering.

My breasts feel ok, the left maybe very slightly tender, but no real lumpiness or anything. I've been very careful to drain each breast with feeding and looking out for blocked ducts.

Does anyone have any idea what's causing this? I have breast implants and am not sure if that's relevant but have breastfed before with them, albeit 3 weeks at the longest and not had this. We're in the middle of moving house and it's making me miserable.

Obviously I mean ill, not I'll!

I don't think it's advisable to breastfeed once you had implants. What did your doc or midwife say about it?

No reason why implants should prevent breastfeeding - www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/mom-activities.html

Has anyone really observed you feeding and got to the bottom of the repeated problems?

Hope you get it sorted .

Thanks for replying.

I'm seeing my GP next Thurs so unless I need to go before then i'll discuss with him.

A couple of midwives and a HV have said the latch is fine but not watched a whole feed. I think there's probably room for improvement as my nipples are sometimes a bit sore though not painful and not painful during feeds.

Once we move I am hoping to go to a group or something, there's a LLL one. Do I just turn up or do I need to be a member or anything?

Groups don't require advance membership, happily :)

Just turn up, but make sure there is someone there qualified to actually assess your situation - some groups are only for social support and friendship.

If your breasts feel ok are you sure it's not a cold or the flu or something?

Thankyou.

Sadly today the top/top left part of my left breast is sore and rock hard, so I think it is mastitis again. I'm going to try and manage without antibiotics this time and get the HV to check the latch again on Monday. I've also pumped after feeding whilst massaging the sore area this morning and will do the same later.

Any tips are appreciated.
