Carobel worked wonders with my "sicky" baby!!

My 12wo DS has been a "sicky" baby since birth. The HV weren't concerned as he was fairly happy and was putting on weight. But i have to say it was getting me down. He brought up alot of milk after every feed, during nappy changes, when put down to sleep at night. And often had to be changed as his tops were soaked.
I tried all the usual stuff of keeping him upright, no jiggling about after a feed etc etc etc.
I done a wee bit of research myself and heard about carobel. Its made by cow and gate and its all natural ingredients. I didnt really want to try gaviscon as its a medication and can cause constipation.
We have used the carobel over the past 3 days and OMG what a difference. He now only brings up small amounts of sick after/during a feed and keeps the rest down. He is a happy wee boy and is sleeping really well. We even figured because he's keeping more feed down that he might sleep better at night. Last night he had a feed at 7.30pm then to bed at 7.55. Gave him a wee dream feed (only took 3oz) and that was him till 6.30am.

You will need to use a faster flow teat as the milk IS thicker. I ignored the instructions on the box about quantity. I started with 1 scoop in a 6 ounce bottle and have increased this to 2, which seems to be just right for my DS*

Has he been diagnosed with reflux then cheeky?

Is it not dangerous to ignore quantity instructions when making up formula? I thought if you put too much in, which you seem to be suggesting OP, then it puts strain on the babies kidneys & can cause serious problems. I really don't think it's very good advice to be giving out.

smiling I think the OP is talking about scoops of carobel and the instructions on the carobel box, not formula and the instructions on the formula tin.

JJJ He was not diagnosed with reflux as the HV reckoned he wasnt really grumpy after a feed.

S and W: As narmada says it was the carobel instructions i ignored not the formula. I am fully aware that you cannot mess with the formula instructions sorry for any confusion to anyone reading that!!! But the carobel will vary with the quantity of the feed so it needs to be adjusted.

Just wanted to share my experience as it made a huge difference to my life and my sons. Feeding and sleeping are so closely linked. Some babies probably have sleep problems because the vomit up alot of their feed and are labelled as "sicky" babies.

Just wanted to post an update.

I've been adding carobel to his feeds for the past 5/6 days and what a difference.

He still pukes a little (a much more normal amount) and no constipation. And he is sleeping really well. Gets a feed at 7.15, then sleep at 7.45ish........dream feed at 10.30....then sleeps till 6.30ish.

If any of you have a sicky baby dont just put up with it, give the thickener a go, it might not work but its worth a go.

if anyone has been lablled as a sicky baby you can get carobel on prescription. My health visitor got me the prescription no apt necesary it was great.

Dont suffer a sicky baby without trying this stuff i was brilliant for my LO. He's a happier baby that sleeps really well, what more can you ask for!!!!

DS had carobel when he was a baby (hes now 13) and it helped him too; glad you have a happier baby!
