I'm new - seeking advice from seasoned bloggers

I've just started really. I started out with poems and now I'm publishing excerpts from a diary I wrote over the last few months.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and, most specifically, any tips you might have for improvement.

Thank you so much :-)

I really like your blog, even though I totally can't relate as I have an only who is 3, but it's very interesting and well written!

Tips: take the Meta off your sidebar. You don't need it and it just clutters things up.

Add links to your Twitter and your Facebook page (if you have one).

Read and comment on other blogs.

Have fun with it!!!!

Thank you! Have removed that. I have links to my Twitter accounts on my contact page. Should I add them elsewhere too?

It's a good idea to put them in a sidebar somewhere, as most people won't ever look at your 'contact me' page!

Yes, I'm new to blogging and enjoying it so far. I still have a long way to go though and would love to join mumsnet bogging but not sure how to do this. Please let me know how I can join.

Just had a look - my boys are grown up now, but I once had two under two so can relate :) Enjoyed your posts, I can imagine they will be really useful to other mums in the same situation.

Tips - maybe move the search box further up the sidebar, once you've accumulated a lot of posts it makes it easier for readers to find the older ones.

Add a subscription link towards the top of your sidebar so people can subscribe to your feed and keep up with new posts.

Don't forget to create back-ups regularly, so if the worst happens you don't lose everything. (That happened to me once and I lost about 8 months worth of posts which is heartbreaking :( ) I noticed you're using WordPress so you'll be able to use the built-in tool to do that. And if you're self-hosted there are some nifty plugins that will automate the process for you.

And everything Tee has said! Especially, the bit about reading and commenting on other blogs - imo that is still the single best way for new bloggers to get a reader base. It's also a good way to meet nice people too; some of my best online friends are people I met through blogging.

Other than that, enjoy your blog!
