Metatags and backlinks.

Hello, I've tried copying the HTML metatag code given on the Mumsnet 'How to Blog' tips section, to my blog, but I keep getting this message when I try and save the template:
"Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure that all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: Open quote is expected for attribute "{1}" associated with an element type "content"."
Has anyone any ideas why?

Also-can anyone explain what a back link is-I have a vague idea that it's a link on another website that links back to my blog, but I don't really understand how I get them.
Any help much appreciated.

I would live to be able to help but I appear to be living in the technical dark ages - this is my task for the weekend, the thing about backlinks. So I'm adding my plea for assistance to your, pockledigg

Hello, sorry I can't help with the HTML bit.

A back link is an incoming link to your blog. The more back links that you have the better. I'm not an expert, but I believe that it will especially help with your page ranking (for search engines and the like) if your links are from other sites that are authoratitive/popular and if the link text used is relevant.

As for getting more backlinks, you need to create content that people want to link to and then get them to do so, which is of course easier said than done!

One way is to guest post for someone. You can also make sure to comment on lots of blogs and take part in blog hops/link ups but I'm not sure if they count as a proper back link or not (but they are still a way of getting your blog out there).

Hope this helps a little bit! Jennifer
