Hi,

I hope you all are well, I need a bit of your help please.

My wife had second scan done today (it's baby boy) everything was oky as doctor said but when they finish scanning they have asked to come back after two weeks for scan.

below are the reason they have mentioned on today's report will anybody help me out that if they are more serious or is that common.

unable to complete fetal anomaly screening today due to sub optimal fetal position and maternal body habitus.

-heart
-lips/profile
-alignment of feet
-edge of the placenta

they didn't mentioned anything in front of my wife but all the above are printed on our report in green book.

Will you please help me out if there is any serious problem.

we are so worried it's our first baby in our family so a bit more worried & more excited.

thanks alot in advance
wish us luck .

thanks alott

Hi. It just sounds like the baby wasn't cooperating do the sonographer could not see the things listed, so they want to try again. I don't see anything alarming in what you have posted. Needing a rescan is quite common.

When they detected a potential problem at my 20wk scan they told me there and then what the problem was and asked me to come back for a scan the very next day.

Everything was ok in the end but they didn't keep anything from us at any point.

I'm sure the baby was just in an awkward position and they couldn't check everything. Did they ask your wife to move in to a few different positions on the bed to try and get a better view?

Maternal habitus means that your wife may be carrying a little more weight than what is usually required to see details on the scan - not a criticism at all, i've had it!
I also know times they have put it when they just can't get a good view of baby.

Nothing to worry about, they just want your wife to come back so they can have another look and make sure everything is fine.

It's great that they are being so thorough Smile
