Underwired bra debate?

Hi would be glad of your opinion please? I'm 12 weeks with no.3 and needed new bras following much much bread consumption for morning sickness, expanding everywhere. I cannot breastfeed because I had breast reduction surgery 8 years ago, the surgeon was unable to reattach the milk ducts. I've made my peace with that so when it comes to bras I am happy to wear underwired. I went to get fitted in House of Fraser and they refused to fit me or even bring me sizes unless it was for non-wired bras, citing company policy. I queried it with the supervisor and explained my circumstances but no exception would be made. I left feeling very judged and angry particularly as I've been going there for years and they were happy to do it with previous pregnancies. The midwives are happy with my decisions but I can't get served in a shop? Doesn't seem right to me.

Those policies are there for the thickies that don't know or blindly ignore pregnancy advice. And the store staff that stubornly up hold those policies are being really thick and narrow minded.
Forget them and fit your own bras next time?

I would ask to see a written copy of their policy.

It is nor illegal to wear an underwired bra when pregnant or breastfeeding.

It may cause problems for some women but not all.

I would've been livid in your position, I've for massive boobs and I need underwiring when I'm not pg, pg and breastfeeding

Go get yourself measured in Bravissimo, they have no such policy about underwire, and in fact the wires on mine were nowhere near the boob itself due to how they fit you.

Still, I am finding them impossible to wear now at 37 weeks what with the womb being so high up it digs in the wire and stops me breathing properly.

Can I advise against wearing underwire when pregnant.

I wore underwired when pregnant with Dc3 and my milk never came in so was unable to BF.

With my first two pregnancies I wore non wired and my milk came in no problem.

but iMemoo the OP can't BF anyway - her milk ducts aren't attached.

fair enough point if you are pointing it at everyone else, though. :)

I wore normal underwire bras through pregnancy then got underwire nursing bras from here:
www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk/search.asp?extratype=1

and can totally recommend them. no probs with breastfeeding. I have massive boobs so non underwire bras just did not provide enough support for me.

As far as I am aware the wire itself is not an issue but rather you have a well fitting bra. good luck!
