Leo Peter arrived on 13/06/09 at 3.50pm weighing 7lb 13oz.
Well whoever said second labours are easier was lying!!!
Started with contractions at 7pm on Friday night, every 7 mins, went through the night between 7-10mins apart. Got a bit disheartened so rang birth centre at 4am who said they would check me.
Went in, was 4cm and contractions picked up to every 3-4mins. Placenta was anterior and DS2 was lateral (to the side) so he needed to turn. He decided to turn the long way round so 3 hours later they checked me again and....was still 4cm!!!!!!! Did a vigorous sweep which kicked things off a bit, jumped into birth pool for a while, then kept alternating positions - pains were really strong and felt like I couldn't do it but coped with G&A as epidural was not available.
Waters went at about 2pm full of meconium so they started talking about having to transfer me. Luckily I reached 10cm about half an hour later so I stayed put whilst they monitored him.
Started pushing about 2.45pm but he wasn't descending easily as he was still twisted in the birth canal. Made some VERY impressive and totally involuntary animal noises (not sure where they came from), he eventually crowned at 3.40pm with the cord wrapped very tightly around his neck twice, they managed to unhook cord and he slithered out COVERED in new meconium, brown water and shit EVERYWHERE.
Awful birth but felt totally empowered afterwards that I had managed it. They were impressed and said that I had done very well not to transfer so felt quite proud
Feel surprisingly good now, although tired but no stitches or anything so all good
xx
