Nature never did take its course and deliver ds naturally, so I went in on monday morning to be induced
As you all know I have been struggling with severe anaemia throughout this pregnancy and my hb actually dropped to 4.2 at one point! One week before my induction date my hb had gone back up to 7 so I was alot happier at that!
When we got to the hospital they hooked me up to a monitor...forgot about me...and eventually booked me in 4 hours later! They then came and examined me and said that I needed the prostatin (sp??) tablet, so did that for me. After they put in the tablet hubby asked the midwife about the blood that was meant to be stored ready incase of emergency and she looked completely confused and went off to check. Then she came rushing back and asked to take blood as I should have had it checked before being given medication. 2 hours later a doctor came onto the ward and told the lady in the bed opposite me she was so anaemic that she needed a transfusion prior to induction as it was too low to deliver incase of a bleed...I thought that was odd as she never mentioned any problems so I went to check with the midwife and it was me he meant to see not the lady opposite . He then told me that by the looks of things the tablet hadnt worked so induction would be left until morning and I would have to have 4 pints of blood overnight...staying on the labour ward in my own room incase of emergencies.
I was a nervous wreck as I was scared of going into labour that night and no-one would answer me properly about what would happen if i did.
At 7 pm on monday I started with bad cramps and knew it was starting...I got upset and my hubby went to tell the midwives who then told me 'to stop being silly...its the way I had been sat' I got that annoyed that she hooked me up to a moniter and soon apologised when she realised I had started with huge contractions. By 8 pm I was on gas and air in agony and having contractions every 3 minutes, but when examined i was only 2 cm.
At 2 am on tuesday morning I could hardly bare it anymore and asked for an epidural, the midwife said i was still not ready for one but she would break my waters. My mum got called to come down too and at 3am she broke my waters. I had carried absolutely huge this pregnancy and Oh boy, did i flood labour ward! everyone was laughing as they just wouldnt stop!! After my waters broke i went staright to 8cm and the midwife examined me. She looked worried and called for the doctor as she said she could feel a nose. I didnt understand what she meant but two doctors came in and examined me and confirmed that baby was trying to come out face first so i couldnt naturally deliver him. I was in agony and couldnt stop pushing and was sick of people telling me to stop, so i got a bit 'threatening' towards staff shouting that if they didnt leave me alone i would punch them!! They were great about it though and rushed me ready for an emergency c-section.
I had a spinal block and that was pure heaven..i couldnt feel a thing! Baby was delivered at 4.20 am weighing 8lb 11 oz .
I then had a bad bleed and they couldnt stitch me up. I lost 1200 mls, but they managed to control it and stitched me up. It was a good job that during labour they managed to give me the 4 pints of blood as I could have been in serious trouble due to lack of communications!
I got taken back to labour ward and when the block started to wear off I had the shakes which was horrible! It was like i was having a fit as i couldn't control my body! I was shaking that bad they couldnt even get an accurate bp off me!!
That died down and yesterday they let me home with baby Kenzie and we are both doing great now, despite a rough start! Bellies sore but baby is beautiful!!
Dont ever feel like you are being a nuisance and make sure you tell them everything as i was lucky that I didnt end up with serious problems due to not getting on their cases!!
