Hi all, thought I'd share my birth story with you!
Baby girl Seren Alais 6lb 7oz
on Monday 16th, waters broke at 5am. DH and myself were surprisingly calm here and we popped along to the hospital a couple of hours later to get checked out. Nothing was happening so they sent us home to wait and said to go back in 24 hours if nothing happened.
Spent the rest of the day 'pottering' etc buy no sign of any contractions at all.
Tues 17th- Went back to the hospital after a very disappointing night of no contractions at all. Had my first check and was 1-2cm dilated but cervix was still thick. Had a pessary about midday and they was checked 6 hours later. Nothing had happened except the cervix had thinned slightly. So they gave me another pessary and sent me off to the ward for the night to see if anything would happen. Had loads of contractions in the night but they were very irregular but quite stong. Then all of a sudden they stopped! Was very frustating!
Weds 18th: Was due to go down to the labour ward in the morning to get put on the drip but due to loads of emergencies I didn't get hooked up until 8pm. Contractions started coming quite quickly and it wasn't long before the gas and air came out!! (BTW- Loved gas and air- was blooming fantastic!!!)
Contractions continued to come overnight and although they were getting stronger they weren't regular enough! Ended up having an epidural and declaring my love to the anethetist!!
Thurs 19th: Was checked in the morning about 8.30 and was found to be 3cms. Was checked an hour later and found to be 4 cms but they were getting worried and told me that if I hadn't progressed to at least 6 cms in the next 2 hours I'd be having a CS which at this stage I was quite happy about. Also, babies HB keep on dipping very low and then shooting up really high and they were getting very worried. They decided to put a clip on the head to keep a better eye on her. Anyway, they checked me 2 hrs later and I was 9cms!! An hour later mw had another quick look and said she could see the head and if I wanted to puch I could! Pushed for an hour and 10 mins, had a small cut made and baby Seren was born at 1.50pm.
Even though it was very long and drawn out, I received the most amazing care. The actual labour and pushing was so chilled out, only 1 MW and a student in with me and it was fantastic.
Was allowed home on Fri 20th and although very sore am recovering nicely. 4 sleepless days in hospital before actually giving birth was highly exhausting but worth it.
