Better late than never...could turn out to be our sons moto for life!

After 40 weeks and 13 days, my home birth dreams were scuppered as the hospital began to induce me at 10am on June 10th. Only one gel and the labour pains started within an hour. Things moved quite quickly and at 4pm they moved me to labour wards as the pains were getting quite substantial. Wasn't dilating very much though and was still only 4cms at 10pm at night.

Up until now I had been using only gas and air. At this point I went against my previous intentions and had a pethadine injection, which I was told would help relax the muscles. They were going to start the Oxytocin drip so I opted for an epidural as was already struggling to handle the contractions and knew the Oxytocin was likely to intensify the pain.

Got the Epidural at Midnight. At 3.50 they decided that Babys heartbeat was too irratic and so it was off to theatre for an emergency section. Oscar Luis was born 7lb 4Oz at 4.15 on June 11th.

They were a bit concerned about his breathing so wisked him off to special care. I got to have a hold for a couple of minutes and then didn't see him for 12 hours, but all fine and dandy and we both got home on Thursday.

Congratulations Juicy, you've got your boy at last & I'm glad to hear that he is fine and well.
If you don't mind me asking did they find/give a reason why they thought his heartbeat was erratic?

12 hours separation sounds a bit tough, poor you. I am glad that you are home & well & you can make up for it now with double amounts of staring, cooing and cuddling. That is a lovely name btw.

I hope you are recovering well & congratulations again!!

Well Done Juicy, it's been a long journey, but you made it. Enjoy him, he will bring you lots and lots of joy .

Sounds a bit scary with the section and him being in SCBU, but I'm glad you're home now and can start to get to know him properly. Enjoy these first few weeks, they pass so quickly.

Congratulations and welcome Oscar Luis.......lovely names!

Rubles, heartbeat was eratic so they took some blood from babys head and were concerned with Oxygen levels, so advised straight away to have emergency section. By that point I just wanted it over TBH and didn't want to take any risks.

When he was born he was gulping more than is the norm which is why they took him to the SBU, but all blood tests came back neg, so it was all just precautionary.
