Morning ladies! I've just found out I'm pregnant (7 weeks) and I have a 5 year old daughter. I'm just looking for advice on the best way to reveal she's going to be a big sister!! X

We made a card (online) of the baby's scan with a message in asking if our daughter would be his big sister. She was thrilled and kept the card in her room to say good night to etc. She was 3 almost 4. We told her at 20weeks and to her it still took forever for the baby to arrive.

My cousin got a countdown but she told her son at 12 weeks and by 40 weeks it had become onerous.

We waited until the 12 week scan. Dd (4 at the time) came with us because we had no one to look after her. The lady doing the scan printed some pictures off and we handed one to her and told her she was going to be a big sister. It was lovely!

We waited until the 20 week scan when we knew whether it was a little brother or sister. We got our son a t shirt saying 'this boy is being promoted to big brother' and included a pic of the scan. It's a long time for a 5 year old to wait so we left it as long as we could. He was over the moon!

I have three step kids (10, 8 and 7). We debated doing some flashy display to tell them (i was quite keen on an idea using doughnuts I saw online) but in the end decided to just tell them. We showed them the scan picture and asked them if they knew what it was and why we were showing them it. They were so excited!

We waited until after the scan and the results for downs etc had come back to minimise the chance of telling them and then something going wrong.
