Earlier this year, a woman I knew as a child in my small home village but have not seen for years, lost her son to suicide. I lost my brother in similar circumstances 20 years ago and I felt compelled to write to her, in part to send my condolences but also to tell her about the disasterous way my family dealt with my brother’s death i.e. ignoring the elephant in the room. That has done me no favours and I wanted to help her family avoid our situation.
She phoned me and wrote me a lovely letter about her son and the funeral. He was clearly much loved and he is never going to be an elephant. She also sent me a little present.
I would love to be able to send her something back, maybe a book of poems about bereavement and looking forward. In fact, I would like a copy for myself!
Does anyone have a suggestion for something I could send her?
Thank you in advance.
