adding new details to a headstone

Does anyone have any experience of this? I have just had a quote to add new inscription to mums headstone and its silly money. How much have others paid?

We added new details to my nans stone I think it was about £150.
Have you gone back to the original stone Mason?

Yes and they have quoted me over £600. I can't believe it. Think I need to check other quotes.

We added Mil's details and paid over £800. It's a complete rip off but they know you will get it done so they can charge a fortune. When you think the plot and headstone was bought and paid for we still had to pay nearly £3000 for the funeral (and that was no frills coffin, no cars etc) plus the above £800.

I added DH's details to my DS1's headstone and i paid nearly £400, and that was with the original mason.

Thank you everyone. The worst think is we paid less than that for the original headstone. I know it was a long time ago but it is still alot of money. Think I will try funeral directors we used too. Can't hurt getting another quote. Especiall as £600 doesn't even include inscription.

The inscription is usually charged by letter. We kept it short!
