A friend phoned me at 3 this afternoon, her dh was killed by and idiot driving an arctic lorry this morning, the driver has been charged with reckless driving and now i am left with a good friend who is obviously distraught.

I am going to see her tomorrow and spend the day with her but don't know what to say or do.

Any tips?

How dreadful for your friend

Just be there for her - let her talk, even if she's repeating the same things over and over. And don't trot out platitudes like time heals.

Poor thing

oh that is awful
when my best friend's dad died she just wanted to be with her family. i did spend time with her and tbh i don't think she wanted anything.. she just wanted to know that people cared and that they were there for her,
i think that you should go in and give her a big hug, ask if she wants to talk about it perhaps... she may want to just carry on as normal. talk about unrelated things, just keep things ok for her iyswim?

Bubs, you don't need to say or do anything - just being there will be enough. How absolutely awful for you all
