How do I protect DD's knees now she's crawling ?!

My 10 month old DD started her crawling career at the weekend and is loving the freedom ! She suffers from excema (sp?) and the crawling really makes patches on the knees flare up. I apply her prescribed lotions and potions regularly, as advised. Does anyone have any advice on how to protect her knees a bit more. She wears trousers a lot now in an attempt to reduced carpet/skin contact but it seems unfair to make her wear trousers now that the weather is hot.

ahem...I write a lot about all kinds of crazy baby products and there is now a kind of knee pad for exactly this. They are called 'crawlers'. Cant tell you where you can get them as it would be advertising!

what about cutting the feet from a pair of your socks and pushing them up her legs - like anklewarmers, only for knees. I've also seen little knitted ones in a catalogue, if you're handy with needles. I laughed a lot when I saw them though! Thick wrist sweat bands might do the trick as well, depending on the size of her legs.

how about getting some very thin elasticated tubular stocking from boots (probably one for arms since she is so small) - the sort that is used for putting underneath plaster if you break your arm etc. It comes in a roll and can be cut to length and shouldn't be too hot for her. also it will get grotty if she is crawling on it so you just chuck it every day and cut off another length. you could use a bit of low tack surgical tape to keep it up if you like.

I used this to protect a burn ds had on his arm in the heat of summer (he was 18 months or so) and it was good stuff! hth

if it's not advertising, is it ok for me to say that www.babycatalogue.com have two different types of knee protectors in their catalogue?
They have little knitted ones for 1.95 (won't fit over clothing) and little ones that look like roller blade type ones, only not hard plastic on the knees for 8.95. these can be worn over trousers. Both are a synthetic type fabric so you might be better off trying something made of cotton

Enid and others, part of mumsnet is about suggesting products/places/campanies that make our lives easier as mums. Advertising is very different, I have never seen it as advertising when I tell people that I love Slimming World's diets, or Citroen Picasso cars, I don't work for them, but they work for me, if you get my meaning!!
