Help - 13mth old DD goes ballistic when I try and change her nappy

No matter what I do my DD hates having her nappy changed. On the odd occasion she lies perfectly still and it's over and done with really quickly and I praise her for it but the majority of the time she wriggles and wriggles and screams and cries when I lie her down to change her nappy. I've seen other posts saying try pull ups but she is quite small for her age and we've only just gone into size 4 huggies and I don't think there are pull ups in her size, plus she won't keep still to let me wipe her bottom... what can I do, it's driving me nuts? (she's not much better when i try and get her dressed either so i'm not sure she'd stand still for long enough to get the pull ups on!!!).

Distraction. Have a toy that is only for nappy changing time. Something that is really fascinating that wiggles and jiggles and jangles!

hmm, have tried giving her a toy but it lasts for all of 10 seconds and then she'll throw it away and then try and turn over to go get it. I don't always have something to hand either.

Not just you guys, over here too. My ds is 12 months and it's like we are trying to murder him should we attempt to change him. What bad parents we are eh .

No advice just sympathy.

I can sympathise with this. My DS went through the same stage a couple of months ago, every nappy change was a battle.
I posted on here on a lovely MNer advised giving forbidden toys like remote controls. It worked
Obviously, if you're about & about this isn't so great but it's fine for when you're at home.
Thankfully, he seems to have outgrown this now, it only lasted a month or so (he's 14 months now)

I did it standing up. Or gave them my car keys or something. I think the actual putting them on their backs is what enrages a lot of toddlers. You could also try it on a mat on the bed or something if you usually do it on the floor.

nature baby care do pull ups that fit skinny babies.

ds is 20mo and is still in size 4 and they stay up whereas huggies, pampers etc. kept falling down.

i clean him standing up too. much easier.

We have special books for nappy changing--big ones with lots of pictures, page of all jungle animals, that sort of thing. DD2 is a geek-in-training so it really works for her, she loves to look at the different animals and make the sounds. Also we change her on the floor and I don't wipe unless it's absolutely necessary.
