What do you do in the evenings?

My dp has gone away for a month and we have no babysitters. I am self-employed and I could - probably should - work in the evenings but frankly my brain doesn't function that well by then. I have several long evenings ahead of me and want to know how I could use them before I become permanently welded to my sofa surrounded by rioja bottles and with an unhealthy knowledge of the tv schedules both terrestrial and other.
What do you all do? I want to have a meaningful life!

At the moment I:
Watch Celebrity love island and
Come on Mumsnet to chat about it.

I would in no way reccommend this as a meaningful life

What I would like to do is:
catch upon my correspondence
paint my toenails
sew buttons onto things and name labels into things
start a new cross stitch
read some decent books
etc etc etc

Feel lonely ... I think you should get a babysitter sorted out. In the meantime, you could read in the bath!

Reading, housework, mumsnetting, watching Eastenders, exercising on my cross-trainer, studying for my OU degree in Geosciences, occasionally working, editing a local charity newsletter, playing with the dog, non-noisy DIY. God, no wonder I'm worn out!

With an exceptionally demanding 4 month old I tend to drink red wine and fall asleep on the sofa!
What I would prefer to do would be:
read the pileof books by my bed
Take up the BSL course I've been meaning to start for months
Drink more red wine!!!

You are all so virtuous! Gimme some of that virtue! Are you all incredibly self-actualised, motivated, energetic Gillian McKeith types? Kama, fatmomma, how did/do you avoid the lardarse tv trap and do so many creative and lifeaffirming things? Tommy lol I feel the same. Knitting, someone said. Knitting! That is incredible AND You can do it whilst watching TV! But for whom do you knit?
