Behaviour/development

Is it common for 2 year olds to be really keen on tidiness? If so is it just a phase?

My dd is always telling us to put things away - the phone on its base, things in the bin. She's even managed to get dh to put his shoes in the cupboard which is more than I've been able to do. Neither dh nor I are very tidy so just wondering if this is a phase she is going through or maybe a longer term reaction against our lack of pristine tidiness.

My 2 DSs went trough a phase at arround that age where everything had to be not only tidy but in a perfect line.

If they were playing with cars there would be a nice neat row of them. We once visited my mum who owned a grocery shop at the time and DS1 was going through the shelves at his level to straighten packs of pasta and tins that where not quite in a row!

I must say it is a vey different story now that they are older and funily enough my two DDs never went through that tidy phase.

I was going to ask if h was he copying your behaviour? but obv. not DD isn't quite 2 yet but she will throw the keys into the cupbaord where she has seen us hang them, same with shoes, clothes into drawers etc. She will also sweep the floor with me, run and get the dushpan and brush etc. Its how they learn I think.

Although I have noticed dd has quite a fussy way about her, she will pick up any food spillages on her highchair tray and place back on the plate/bowl before handing it to me. This morning she swept all the chipwood off the steps of the slide in the park before climbing them which made me smile

Thanks for your replies. Dd is very similar when picking up bits of food from her highchair. They are so sweet at this age, aren't they?

This thread if my dd to a tee. Shes 2 and a bit and is obsessed with being clean and having the place tidy. Certainly doesnt get it from me! If shes eating she has to wear a bid and get a new one if it gets messy. She hates having her hands dirty and asks for the high chair tray to be cleaned if she spills something. Honestly, it can be so annoying at times. There was me thinking children loved to get messy and having sticky fingers

Oh and everything gets put in neat lines... and there'd be trouble if I even attempted to mess them up.

Im sure she'll grow out of it, but hopefully not the tidying of the house - someones got to do it

My ds1 has just turned 2 and is similar. His favourite saying is "put it back"
Eveb if he gets pen or paint or something on his hand, he'll hold them out to me and say "yuk" getting louder until I clean them
