Hi, My DD who is 9 and 9 months has just got her first period. she has been developing quite noticeably over the past year or so...spots, hair, moods, the start of breasts and shooting up in height so it wasn't completely unexpected. She is fairly cool about the whole thing..we have talked about it and read books and all that, but can someone reassure me that she is not too young? Mine didn't start until I was 11 and I remember being one of the first in the class at school then. I know no one else in her class has reached these stages. Thanks

I would say yes as i started mine roughly around same age, and my niece has as well.

Good on you for reading the books ect. i remember me being bit embarressed being only one in primary to have started.. x

I was 10, and I think girls do start earlier now than a generation ago. It's good that she's quite cool about it all - but you could maybe have a chat with the Practice Nurse at your GPs if you want reassurance.

I started at 9 too plus I know of a girl in my dd class who started at 9 day before a school trip so of course all females clucked round her.

Thanks for that. I remember when I started it was hideously embarrassing as my mum went very strange and my dad said something like 'Congratulations on becoming a woman!' and i just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me!!! So I was determined that my kids would not feel awkward or embarrassed with me and I'd answer all questions as honestly as I could without being over graphic! So far seems to be going ok, though I'm quite a long way from being supermum!!!!!
