Hi all

My 15 week old boy had a lot of hair and recently I have noticed a bald patch on the side (as well as the normal thin one on the back. I finally worked out that he is pulling his hair on this side as he goes to sleep/when he is really tired. Is this normal? He is starting to look a bit strange with loads of hair on one side and a bald patch on the other. Is there anything I can do about it?

My DS has pulled hair when tired since he was born and he's still at it (14mo)) - he seems to find it very comforting. Unfortunately the hair he pulls is mine! Sorry I can't offer any help - but I'll read any answers with interest.

Hi, my 8 month old DD does this too, it is one of the signals, along with rubbing eyes, that she is ready for a nap or to go to bed. I don't worry about it as I am sure it is just a phase.

no my ds socks were tight enough to not fall off and to not choke on just try one night and see how you get on

also have you got a hairy toy maybe you could put at head height that he could tug at when tired maybe the feel of that may stop pulling at his hair

my ds soon forgot about it when he couldn't do it it broke the habit

My DS used to fall asleep at the breast while playing and tugging at my hair. When I stopped breastfeeding on his 2nd birthday he started to tug at his own hair. Unfortunately the hair of little ones is much easier to pull out than ours, so I used to find little clumps of hair on his pillow in the morning, and he had very thin hair on the top of his head.

It has stopped now. I don't know why, so this isn't much help. My boy was a lot older than yours as well, so perhaps he just listened to me when I told him not to pull his hair.

Oh my, my ds used to do that! He would scratch his head and pull his hair out if he was tired or distressed. He will grow out of it. I would put a hat on him when we put him to bed and he would just wear a vest so he wouldn't get too hot. Sometimes we put socks on his hands as well. It will pass!
