Hi all

I'm new to mumsnet and being a mum. DD arrived two weeks ago and has been realtively good til the last couple of days. But she has started getting very agitated in the evenings and crying a lot. She follows the same pattern:

Feed, looks sleepy.
Seems to fall asleep- either on us, or in her hammock.
Between 2 and 15 mins later her breating gets faster, she starts to cry. Often gets hiccups too and just won't sleep. Usually ends up staying awake for a couple of hours.

I'm wondering if this is colic and if anyone has any advice? I'm finding it hard that I can't comfort her.

Thanks

J

Hi there, both my girls did/ do this. Dd2 is 6 weeks and has a similar set of behaviours (I posted a thread on this a few days ago). My theory is that as they get older they become more aware of their surroundings and can become anxious in the evenings either from overtiredness, fear of nightime separation or something else. I think its normal behaviour and is a phase that will pass and get better. Personally, I think its best to be there for them, reassure them and give them cuddles etc in the evenings to help them settle. I'm still doing a lose bedtime routine of bath, feed etc but at this age its best to be flexible. Good luck!
