My toddler refuses to wear a bib

Having been fine until now (2-3 weeks ago), my 21 month old has just started refusing to wear a bib. I've bought different types of bibs, changed his high chair so he now eats at the table, tried being firm, tried pretending to be casual etc. Ultimately I want him to eat, though, which doesn't happen if he gets upset and rips it off. Any thoughts?

Put him into an old t-shirt instead. I think its a battle not worth fighting!

DD hated wearing a bib from abouyt 18 months, so we didn't put one on her resulted in a bit more washing but that was all.

I gave up and just allowed 3-4 shirts of his to become ruined. Would ensure one of these was on for meals (or sometimes he ate in his vest )

They do grow out of bibs. Agree with Tee - pick your battles, and I wouldn't pick this one.

Is it really that important to you? I am a firm believer of picking your battles and I don't personally think wearing a bib is worth stressing over - let him go without and eat.

Yes his clothes will get messy but that is kids for you.

ds2 hasn't had one for ages, I can't get that upset about it though it can be annoying.

dd1 stopped wearing one about the same age (I'd just change her top if it was really bad, but my standards were pretty low by then!), but now (2.7)she asks to put one on if she is eating something messy.

I would suggest buying some really nice paper napkins and tuck them into the neckline like a bib. (handy for bolognese and other really messy dinners, don't bother for snacks etc)

Explain that some adults do this.

oh I remember that phase! I used to have velcro bibs which i replaced with the ones that tie behind the neck, which just infuriated my DC more as then they could't get them off so just used to pull them so hard they almost strangled themselves, and then they learnt to undo the bows I bought some of those bibs that are like painting aprons with arms like this I got some in Sainsburys, and then also used to use the tabard ones too like this but I think I got them in our local garden centre quite reasonably! If all else fails, but on a t-shirt of jumper you don't care about and let him go for it!

ds2 is 13m and has never liked having a bib on, as a result he can get pretty messy but hey washing machines work wonders.
