Until last week DS was generally a really happy baby and although it's always been very difficult settling him at night, he never cried for prolonged periods as I could always work out why he was crying. We went on holiday last week and he was great until day 5 when he suddenly became much more tethy and has continued to be like this since we got home. I still get lots of grins and cuddles but he suddenly seems to cry at certain times, e.g. 11 am, during nappy changing, for no reason other than possible tiredness. I can usually comfort him with a cuddle but just wondering why he should suddenly change like this? He is feeding well and gaining weight (75th centile) and seems well in himself. Is this just normal development?

He's growing up and getting more aware.

He finds some things irritating and annoying - like being tired and having his nappy changed.

His cry means "pick me up and make me better" - and you do!

You sound as though you're doing really well - and survived a week away too. Loads of babies can't bear being away from home and go to pieces with loads of crying and unsettled times.

thanks Gagarin. It is like he has become more aware so perhaps he does find things upsetting that didn't previously bother him. Poor boy!
