Hi, I have a 3-week old baby who feeds for upto an hour at a time and I keep falling asleep during night feeds. Do you have any tips on how I can stay awake so that my baby is safe?

Hi. Others on here will tell you about safe co-sleeping so baby can feed while you sleep. Personally I found it very very difficult to feed lying down (but then I found it difficult full stop ) so I never managed it. I know exactly what you mean though. I used to fall asleep all the time during daytime feeds as well.

Hi London7. The first time this happenned to me I was mortified and thought the parenting police would come! I never feed lying down always sitting up and when I wake my baby is always in my arms fast asleep and full too. I am on no. 2 now and she feeds faster but I still have the same problem. Sorry I don't have any pearlers to help but at least you will know you are not alone

The only real answer to this is you can't! night feeds release loads of oxytocin into your system so you're effectively stoned on your own happy chemicals, this affects some people more than others - This is why safe cosleeping is a much better idea than trying to remain upright in a chair or whatever, your baby is at more risk if you try to fight biology
