Is 3 months too early for teething?

DS has been fractious for the last few days. Drooling alot and constantly chewing/sucking on hands/sleeves. His cheeks are sometimes red and hot.

Sounds like teething to me but not sure as a few people have said he is too young to be teething.

he's too young to grasp the concept of teething rings and I really want to avoid giving a dummy.

Any advice?

give a dummy! really, it's not the end of the world and it will help...especially if you rinse them in water and freeze them first. Bliss!

Also try Calgel. It's totally safe as long as you don't give great big gobs of it I'm sure.

could also freeze a muslin dipped in water but tbh a dummy is a lifesaving device! it's easy to get rid of if you don't leave it too late, IME (2 kids).

DS1 was 7m before he cut a tooth, ds2 4m, and I met a baby this year who was BORN with a tooth.
So no, not too early. Mine never 'grasped the concept' of teething rings. I think they are just a con to get money out of mums. Just let him chew on anything he wants. If you give him a chilled dummy he will probably chew on it not dummy-suck it. We found a peeled chilled carrot as good as anything!

Try Ashton and Parsons powder (available from boots etc).All natural ingredients and it really helps them IMO.

My ds started being drooly and chomping on everything at around 13 weeks. Still has no teeth at 8 months though

I have just started giving him a dummy (just to chew on) and cos he's never had one before, he has no idea what it's actually for so is quite happy to chomp on it rather than suck on it. (He's so clueless he even chews on the wrong bit) but it keeps him quiet!

My DD got her first tooth at 3 1/2 months. Now at almost 5 months, I think she is about to get another one.

No. I started using guaze from 12 weeks and it made such a difference when the teeth finally came through a few months later.

I've seen 3mth-old babies with lower front teeth and also a baby who cut a lower molar first, before any other teeth (saw it with my own eyes!). However, I think it's very common for the teething process to begin weeks, if not months, before any actual teeth appear - so you could see a tooth soon or when ds is 12mths old. I found Calgel was helpful, rubbed on the tip of a dummy and popped in.

Both mine had 4 teeth by 3 months - 2 bottom then 2 top soon after.

I'll bet it is teething - and unfortunately, it can go on for ages! My daughter started teething at 2 months (just when the colic seemed to pass!!) and by her first birthday she only had 2 teeth! I think the first tooth appeared at about 8-9 months, so teething lasted ages with her!

No. Ds was teething at three months, first two teeth around 4 1/2 months. Bonjela works well and nelsons teething powders.
they'll chew what they want to- I found teething rings a waste of money.

My DD cut her first tooth at 12 weeks, then one a month since then (or at least that's what it feels like!!). I bought some gum massagers from Boots (you put them on the end of your finger) then put some bonjela on the comb bit and let her chew away. It was the only thing that really worked when she was tiny.

My son started teething at about 12 weeks, dribbling, red cheeks, chewing on everything he could get in his mouth, and gave himself a sore on his hand where he kept chewing his fist, but a tooth did not actually appear until 6 months.
He is now nearly 15 months and has seven teeth.

Just before each tooth appeared all these symptoms intensify and he also has wakeful nights with lots of screaming, a temperature and very disgusting loose green nappies. For his first back tooth he was also physically sick the night before it cut the gum.

The only thing which works for my son when it is really bad is Calpol. I tried teething gels but he just licks them off before they get anywhere near his gums, I have also tried these teething rings etc which have gel in them which you put in the fridge but he just isn't interested in chewing on these and chooses other toys/books to chew on instead.

Can't believe there is still 13 more teeth to come!!
