Everywhere I look, 6 month old babies are standing up!

My baby is 6 months old and she can’t sit yet but everyone else’s babies seem to be standing up!! She is rolling and can sit supported (for a while before she slumps) but she can’t yet bear much weight on her legs if that makes sense.

Should I be concerned?

She is super tall for her age (don’t know if that makes any difference)

No! Mine didn't pull to stand til about 7/8MO and didn't stand independently til 11MO and she's pretty advanced with her physical skills. I don't think standing at 6MO is typical at all. They either just have babies who are super focused on this skill and have learned it unusually quick or their caregivers have either been putting their babies in standing position far too much or their caregivers are bare faced lying Grin Enjoy your baby. You have months yet until you need to worry about her standing. If she's not walking independently by 18MO then start seeking help xx

@SugarbabyMilly so glad I didn't see all those 6 months old walking!! My DD didn't walk until 22 months!! She just wakes off one day after cruising the sofa!

It's a wide range - some walk early and some late.

6 months is early early!

Enjoy the non walking whilst it lasts I say!

I'm now chasing mine around the park Grin

Mine kid didn't lock out his legs until 6 months, didn't stand supported or crawl until about a year, and walked at 14 months.

Don't let Mums suck you into 'competitive baby Olympics'. It's utter bullshit. Most of the Mums who spend ages bragging about this sort of shit really have nothing else going on in their lives. Just enjoy your baby for who they are because they stay little for SUCH a short time.

6 months for standing? Really? I know some do, but it’s a very small minority! If you want her to build up some leg strength, you can let her bounce on your lap with a bit of support, but it really isn’t necessary unless she enjoys it (mine LOVED a lap bounce at that age, but some don’t). Rolling is a much more important skill at this age (and one mine didn’t master till much later) because it’s the first skill to have coordination between the two sides with them doing different things (an important step towards crawling/eventually walking). If you’re bothered about sitting unsupported, like everything it’s merely a matter of practice, so give her more partially supported sitting time if you want (my DD had an inflatable donut shaped play thingy that she liked and helped her practice moving between sitting/all fours without face planting hard!), but if she enjoys floor time/tummy time then it’s actually better for her to be having plenty of that.
