I know the current situation of covid is risky,
but is it common for babies to cough occasionally ?

do I need to see a paeditrician right away or can wait till 21st april when I will be visiting for vaccination ?

Does baby have any other symptoms like a temperature? Do they seem ok or are they crying?

They can cough from time to time but if you can give some more information, like if the coughing is during a feed, that might be helpful Smile

@JiltedJohnsJulie
Baby doesn't have a fever at all. He seems ok when he coughs.
I think he coughs randomly, usually twice , but not that commonly

I’d say it was probably ok. You could always give your bedroom a really good hoover, including the mattress, in case it’s a milk allergy to housedust.

I’d try not to worry but I would mention it to your HV next time you speak to her.

Trust your gut instinct on it too.

I have a 10 week old and he’s been doing the same thing since about 6 weeks. Not regular, but I happened to see down his throat as he coughed once or twice and there’s usually a bit of reflux there that has irritated him. He doesn’t spit up, he just swallows it and I think sometimes it goes the wrong way. Sounds like what you’re having. I don’t want to say it’s not a big deal if it is, I’m a ftm, but my instincts for my boy are that it is just his developing throat and gag reflex. Hope he’s okay x

My 16 week Old coughs maybe 2 to 3 times a day and has done since about 4 weeks old. it usually happens when he's had a bit of silent reflux, so most likely the acid or spit up irritating his throat. It when he tries to shove his whole fist down his throat haha!

Could be that? Or if you have pets maybe a hair is tickling his throat?

My 8 week old has sneezed and coughed since birth. I've not been worried and looked it up and it seems it's normal newborn behaviour. As long as it occasional rather than all the time, I think it's just a way for them to clear their airways
