Ds1 has got some damage to his front teeth I assume from having bottle of milk in the night, despite it being 4 ounces of milk and 5 of water.

I have put him to bed (5 mins ago) without a bottle but with a new dummy with a lovely picture of a rocket on it that he chose himself earlier today.

He has just stopped screaming.

I have given Ds2 a bottle of water and intend to give him a dummy too if he wakes crying.

I was wondering if I may have anyone elses experiences on this type of thing and how sucessful it was and how long it took for the child to accept it.

I am happy for either of them to use a dummy at bed time but they will not be using them in the day.
Ds1 used one when he had colic but gave it the boot of his own accord at 6 months and Ds2 has never used one.

Now for the -worthy bit.....

Ds1 is 2 years old and Ds2 is 1 on the 10th.

Help!

DS2 still had a bottle of milk before bed until he was about 2 1/2 - all other drinks were from a "normal" beaker/cup - but milk had to be the bottle

Good luck

Thanks Queenie.
Did he give it up when he was ready, or did you sneakily stop it?

DS has about 2 oz of weak tea, then filled up with milk at night. All other drinks out of a cup.

He is 4 soon and I can't rid him of it no matter how hard I have tried. Tis the new baby you see,.................

When you say damage, what sort of damage. I am worried now?

So am I.
Am taking him to dentist tomorrow.

At the top edge, along his gumline, there appears to be a gap in the enamel of about 2mm.
It is not black or anything, but slightly darker white, like a creamy colour.

I can't remember exactly - I think on Choir practice nights (I have to take the DS's over with me) he ended up not getting his bottle as it's literally "in the door, shoes off, teeth brushed, wee and then bed" (they go in their PJ's) and I realised he wasn't really too bothered. Then it just sort of peetered (sp) out..

Anyway!
Don't try to detract attention away from your weak tea admission! lol

If DH doesn't put the tea in, he will not drink the bloody stuff. DH started all this, but I guess at least it isn't sugared

Be very interesting to hear what the dentist says though as we still have the Dummy at night here I take it out once he goes to sleep.

I would go completely cold turkey with ds1 and leave ds2 until ds1 is sorted, then do ds2. I would not use anything to replace it either. Use the return to bed technique. The trouble being that you will then need to go through the whole process again with the dummies at a later date. One bad time is better than two (per child obviously)
