Is this normal?

Hi I have a 2 yr 4 month old DD. She's been a bit delayed with her speech but is coming out with new words all the time over the past month or so (I'd say she's picked up a further 50 words over the month). She pointed late and only to things close up but everything else was on time. She's never really communicated well but she seems like she doesn't need to (almost as laid back as her father!). She's always prioritised walking and moving over talking it seems. I think what I'm wondering is if this is normal or not. She can speak quite well sometimes (says bird/car/digger/frog etc when she sees one). But she also says random words out of context, almost like she's talking to herself. Although she speaks, she doesn't really communicate - I can ask her something and she can't reply with yes or no. I say she can't but it seems more like she doesn't want to, like she has other priorities. She answers to her name most of time too. Her eye contact is generally ok - she will most of the time look back at me to confirm things or show me things. She still babbles a lot (or maybe it's just me not understanding?) I'm so worried I'm waiting for a referral. She's always been very upset at strangers although she has got better - she still gets upset when they talk to her though! Everything seems to point towards development disorders. Can anyone put my mind at ease?
