2yr old not talking

Hi, my ds will be 2 next month, he dsnt talk, will occasionally say something that's sound like bye bye but that's it. Should I be worried? X

Does he understand you when you talk to him?

Yeh, he understands what I am saying, he will point and gesture to me. Just seems to be the words that's missing x

I wouldnt worry yet, our 2.5 year old couldnt say anything at the age of 2. His nursery and HV were not worried because he understood communication and made his wants known in other ways.

Do you find your child has a much varied use of facial expressions than other children? That is how we saw our DS communicated instead of with words.

Anyway, 6 months later he is still behind but he is now saying words.

If he turns 3 and is significantly behind then HV said she will refer him for speech therapy.

But dont worry about what it may mean for him, I couldn't speak properly even when I started school. It wasnt until I was 5 that I started catching up in my language skills vocally - I flourished in other aspects of like (technically was classed as a "high achiever" in school).

Similar with my DH, he didnt speak until 3.5 - one day he just woke up and started talking in sentences, freaked his parents out. He has done okay in life too.

This thread is enormously comforting to me; I actually came to post about my little granddaughter, 19 months old and not talking yet. So thank you and hope your worries are soon swept away!
