13 month injections - LO is acting different a week after (temp and whingy)

Hi

Sorry for the long thread but PLEASE read and PLEASE could you give me some reassurance!

I'm probably worrying for nothing but, my LO had his 13 month injections last Wednesday (he was 14 month at the time), and until this Monday he's been right as rain - happy and his normal self.

Monday night/Tuesday morning (5 days after the injections) he woke up at around 4am and started to cry uncontrollably for about an hour. His body was slightly warm so we gave him paracetamol.

Since Monday he's been irritable (not constantly but more than his normal self). He's been whingy a lot especially yesterday. His temperature was 38.5 at 8pm yesterday so we gave him some paracetamol. Helped a little.

I understand that a temp and irritability is 'normal' after vaccinations, but LO hands and feet were also cold so we phoned 111, and they said to go to the nearest walk in centre where they kindly saw him asap. The doctor took his temperature and it was 38.0 - doc just said that it may be viral (he chose his words carefully as he did not want to 'blame' the temp on the vaccinations).

In summary, doc said LO may have viral and that babies hands and feet can go cold when having a fever (?!).

Anyone else experience this with their LOs after their 13 month vaccinations? If so, how long did it last for?

Thank you guys in advance :)

The MMR vaccine first set of side effects is 7-10 days after it is given. There may be more side effects later on too. Did they not advise you of side effects?

thanks dementedpixie

Yes, they did. But they didn't mention the cold hands and feet, and also I just wanted to know from you and others as to how long it normally took for the temperature and irritability to go away. LO is not the same :(

My little one was poorly a week after her injections. Irritable at first, no temperature and then so much sickness and poops. Doctor's said it was viral and not related to the Injections but it is very common for toddler's to pick up viral "bugs" of all kinds after injections as their immune system Is occupied with the injections. It's common for kids to get cold hands and feet so I'd not be that concerned. Most viral bugs go away within a week and irritability within two weeks.

@ksabps
hello,
I know we are a few years on but my LO is exactly the same and I feel like it’s just going on and on. Can you remember how long to lasted? Starting to get slightly worried 😟

my son had very similar aftermath, I was really scared, but he was ok. After his injections he was inconsolable for ages, finally calmed down for a bit, then woke up at night with a very high temperature and inconsolable and shaking. They had to send an ambulance for him. It was clear it was due to vaccine at a and e, but was also noted as viral on his discharge. I’m pro vaccines completely and don’t believe in any link to development issues. But there was between that and his temp / reaction which nearly caused a seizure (which could have consequences if not dealt with). He was fine in the end, but generally lasted a few weeks of being unsettled
