6 year old having mega tantrums

My daughter has started having really bad outbursts. Her dad died when she was 3 and shes always been an emotional girl but recently she seems so angry. Whenever she had a tantrum when she was a toddler I just ignored it and she stopped doing it. I don't know what to do for the best now though because of her age. I don't know if its an age thing or because her dad died. Has anyone got any advice on how to deal with it? She doesn't act out unless she's at home and is very well behaved at school and when out although she gets very hyper. She is currently sobbing into her pillow after screaming for 20 minutes and throwing things over a silly lamp. How do I approach it?

Has she had any grief counselling? Is there a home school link worker who you could approach for some advice? Play therapy can be very useful for understanding emotions too
