5 yro still wetting day and night

My 5 yro DD was potty trained at 2.5 but although we have had several weeks dry, the majority of the time we had the odd accident. This was ok but it seems to be getting worse and can have at least 1 accident a day. We have talked to the dr who has said they will refer us but as yet we are still waiting. Now the teacher at school has called me in to discuss. She seems to think that it's possible that because my DD is still in pull ups at night this is not helping. I can sort of understand but always thought it was best to wait till they were dry a while before trying. I'm at my wits end, I try hard not to be angry with her, but hate the thought that everyone else can smell it and that other kids will start to tease her. She is super bright but dont know if its medical or laziness. Advice very much appreciated.

Can you train her to use menstrual pads and go into the bathroom and recess and lunch to check it and change if necessary? They probably won't have disposal bins in the school bathrooms but she could put used ones in a wet pack to dispose of at home. That could solve the smell problem at least.

I had tried a thin pad (for bladder problems) as when she wets it's only a small bit and not a full wee. But the teacher pulled me up on it and made me like a bad parent!
