Started babbling now stopped - normal? :(

My DD was a bit behind in babbling. Lots of vowel sounds but not dadada, gagaga etc until she just turned 10 months. She barely stopped for a month and was chattering like a little budgerigar!

Noticed in the last week or so that it's massively slowed down. She occasionally points at things and says ba or a few other little sounds like that, but that's it. After her delay in babbling initially it's made me feel so worried.

For context, she's waving, pointing, understands phrases like "wave bye bye". She more often than not responds to her name, although sometimes totally ignores me if she's engrossed in something (normal?). She's also teething like mad right now, two more bottom teeth have popped up and I suspect I can see one at the back appearing - could that make a difference?

Sorry if I sound really neurotic, I'm just so worried :(

Her receptive language and use of gestures is brilliant so I wouldn’t worry about it at all. My son did the same around 12 months and looking back it was because he was very focused on his gross motor and learning to walk. The babbling came back dramatically about a month later along with the start of real words. You’ve listed lots of positives so I’d sit back and try not to worry, could easily be the teething making her a bit quieter too :)

Not quite the same...but my baby is almost 6 months old so no babbling yet but chatting with vowel sounds. A month ago this completly stopped....and I mean completely. For about 3 weeks he never made a sound...not even a squeal. I was so worried. People told me it's common that this happens when they are focusing on developing another skill...but I wasn't sure I believed that. However....one day he suddenly started rolling and the next day we woke up to him chatting away again and he hasn't stopped since. Sounds similar to yours, sounds absolutely fine and normal given the things she is doing. Try not to worry xx

Sorry for the mega slow reply (I've been poorly, joys!) but thanks so much for the reassurance :) I really appreciate it. We're still getting occasional ba's, ga's and da's here but not much at all. She is really really making a go of the walking now (just in time for her first birthday I reckon) so maybe that's got something to do with it too.

Wish I wasn't so worried all the time!
