Danger naps

How do people get through the phase of a child's life where danger naps are a problem? Right now DC 3yrs has days where he is awake all day and others where I catch him asleep suddenly or school let him fall asleep on the carpet. On the latter days he's a nightmare to get to bed. Right now he's wild because he had 10mins earlier whilst I was hanging the washing around!

He's not the best night sleeper either so I sort of want him to reach the age where he sleeps all in one go and not randomly! I don't know if 3 is too old for naps because occasionally I'd love a nap myself at 35!

I don’t think 3 is too old for naps at all. My eldest dropped his at 3 years 3 months and my youngest still had one some days at almost 4.

When he does fall asleep, are you letting him sleep for a bit?

He usually struggles most I. The afternoons and if he's going to nap it will be then. School let him fall asleep on the beanbags/carpet if it happens. He gets no more than 10mins though. We tried letting him have a half hour and he didn't go to bed till 12.30am.

Days he doesn't nap he goes to bed easily and sleeps better. Today he had 10mins and is absolutely bouncing right now! Also he'll sleep in hour blocks once he does sleep and won't be settled. It's exhausting but as I'm working now he's in school I'm telling myself to appreciate the extra time I see him 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

It's an in between phase of being very tired if he hasn't had a nap and not really needing a daytime sleep any more. I don't expect the phase will last much longer, if that helps!

When my youngest started school just after his 4th birthday he used to fall asleep on the way home from school in the car.

If he does snooze try not to let him sleep too long. It will be a short-lived phase, honestly!
