Crying when eating

My Ds is 26 months old and has been up crying pretty much all night for two nights now, I’m pretty sure (although can’t see them breaking through yet) it’s his molars but it’s hell! What I want to ask is has anyone else’s cried while eating when the molars come through?
He gets really distressed if he eats anything too hard, is this normal with molars? It’s heartbreaking feeling so useless :(

calpol, soft foods and something numbing like ice cream is the way to go (You can make soft scoop ice cream using only bananas ).
