2.5 yr old attempting headstands

My 2.5 year old is very physically able and very flexible. She can do things like forwards rolls and putting her feet up over a bar that she is swinging from. She does these things all by herself and mostly I just let her because she is usually quite sensible and doesn't jump unless she can land safely for example. However, recently she has been trying to do headstands and almost managed one in her cotbed this evening. I'm quite worried she will hurt her neck because it won't be strong enough? She does put her hands down too and her arms are strong. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks

You've described my 2.5yr DS! It's unnerving at times!

Can you take her to Tumble Tots (or similar) so yes she'll learn these various acrobatics but will be taught safely and properly. I remember when my DS was doing forward rolls he'd put head down and then just push over flipping flat on his back, gave me a cold sweats thinking he was going to damage his back so I thought it's futile telling him to stop, so taught him to do it properly (head tucked under, roll....and not onto your little sister!)

She already goes to a gymnastics class but when they do headstands there they hold the kids up so that there is not much weight on their head. I'll ask there but the coaches are youngish girls who only know so much about child development! Still I'm glad it's not just her!
