5 month old not weight bearing on legs

I'm probably being ridiculous, (worth noting i have PND and anxiety - in therapy and on meds) but I'm getting a bit worried that my 5 month old doesnt try to bear weight on his legs at all..... I see other mums standing their babies up on their laps and my little man just won't do it....he just collapses his legs if that makes sense, doesn't push back at all? I know he's still tiny but it seems that all other babies do it?! I know they're all different etc...Hope I'm worrying over nothing?

You are Smile
Some babies will be weight bearing by 5mo, but loads won't. My DD1 was by that age but DD2 wasn't. DD2 is 8.5mo now and weight bearing but can't hold herself up for long (DD1 had started to cruise by now!). If he is nearing a year and still struggling then speak to your HV.
They are all so different and have their own 'special skills'. I bet there are things your DS can do much better than his peers? My friend has a DS the same age as my DD1. DD1 sat, crawled, walked, and talked months before her DS, however at 2.9yo she has only recently worked out peg puzzles and more advanced shape sorters which friend's DS had down before he was one! He was more interested in sitting and concentrating on a task, she was more interested in getting up and going, and that shows in when they achieved their milestones.

Neither of mine did at that age. Dd1 didn't start walking until 18 months and now I have trouble trying to catch her at almost 4 years old. Dd2 has just turned one and only just started crawling. As pp said, they are all different. You're absolutely right, anxiety will make a problem that isn't there (talking from experience). Enjoy your baby.

My dd couldn't properly sit up, unaided, until 9 months. Yet she started crawling at 7 months! Didn't walk till 14.5 months. Now, at nearly 5, by far the fastest runner in her school (boys and girls). Her dad is very sporty and was a good sprinter, so I shouldn't be too surprised, though I'm a bit of a sloth myself. But I well remember the days when I sat there thinking, is she ever going to walk?

It is nothing to worry about (though I understand why you are - I well recall tying myself up into knots about these things).

When I say in her school, I mean in her year group, obviously.

My DD didn't until after her first birthday. She finally walked at 18 months and now at 5 1/2 she's absolutely fine. They're all different, try not to worry 😃

My 11 month old has only just started standing with assistance. No crawling nothing. On the other hand she's very vocal and loves to copy and interact. Don't worry they really will do these things at their own pace.

I wouldn't worry about it just yet. Despite daily tummy time, my 6 month old can't roll over :/ this is probably because he's really fat. He's 99th percentile for weight and it seems to be hard to swing his hips because his bum and belly are so big.

Milestone dates are based on averages and your LO seems to be an outlier. That's okay. As long as he's fed enough that his muscles can grow and you give him lots of stimulation, there's not a lot you can do. Take him to the GP if you're worried, but I really wouldn't be. Flowers

My DS is 4.5 months and has weight bared on his legs since 2 months. However he still doesn't reach for toys or grab his feet which most 4 month olds are doing. They are all different and gain skills at different rates. Don't worry and try not to compare him to other babies.

My 8mo hardly bears any weight on his legs when I stand him up on my lap either. He bears a tiny bit - a small improvement from when he was 5m. I'm not worried.

Thanks all. I was pretty sure it was the anxiety at play rather than a real concern. Great to have reassurance, will try my best not to worry. I know I shouldn't compare him to other babies. Working on it!

Please I need help. My 6 months old baby usually curl up his legs when put on a standing position. What could be the problem with him?
