Potty trained, but now only pooing in nappy

Hi
My 2.7 yo DS is potty trained and had been doing pretty well with both wees and poos, but recently has stopped doing poos on the toilet. He sometimes has accidents during the day, but he mostly just does a big one in his nappy as he's waking up.
Any advice on how to get him to doing them on the toilet? He gets stamps on his hand when he does do one, which he likes, and he knows he should do them in the toilet but it's not happening!

I had this from dd. No real advice as it was just something she eventually started doing reliably but offering a bribe (in her case a piece of chocolate) did work to encourage her. She actually seemed a bit scared of pooing in the potty and needed me to sit and hold her hand to reassure her.

DS did this too, he eventually stopped and started doing them on the toilet rather than the potty.

I'm reading Nappy Free Baby by Amber Hatch. It's focused on younger babies but she has a website with links to resources/support groups. You might find something helpful on there.

Mine does this. I believe it's very common. Bribes haven't worked for us. I'm following advice on the ERIC website - we're at the point now of her pooing in a nappy, but sat on the loo. It's a bit of a PITA but not worth making an issue of - I've a friend who's a child's continence nurse and tells me that lots of the problems she sees were caused by issues being made of this sort of (pretty normal if slightly annoying) behaviour. I just remind myself she won't do it when she's 18! Mine tells me now when she needs to go and chooses her nappy!

My DSS went through this too was doing well doing poos in the toilet then randomly changed and would rather poo in his pants during the day than in the toilet! Does your DS use the toilet or the toilet with a training seat/step or a potty? DSS used a toilet training seat but must have found this uncomfortable as one day it was accidentally left at his nans so he had to use the toilet without the training seat and he was converted, we haven't had a poo in the pants since!!
